The British yacht Endeavour 11. icttisohed, two and a-half tons of lead ballast, hoping to increase her speed in light winds. RANKER'S CLEAR SUPERIORITY NEW YORK, August 4. (Received August 5, at 2.30 p.m.) Less decisively beaten than hitherto, Endeavour, nevertheless, finished 500y.ds and 4min' 27sec after Ranger, whose superiority in speed and ease in handling are now definitely established. The winner’s elapsed time was 3h 54min 2Qsec. She crossed the starting line first in a twelve-mules wind, which, however, began to diminish, soon dropping to. 10 miles. Ranger, found the ' light air to her liking, and rapidly forged three-quarters of a mile ahead of Endeavour. The latter, however, began to catch up when the wind perceptibly freshened, and made up a quarter.of a mile at the halfway mark. The British boat continued to diminish her opponent’s lead when, the wind increased to 15 miles, but jt was impossible to overtake Ranger over the remaining distance. Ranger is believed to have set a new record for thq beat to windward on the first 15 miles. The unofficial time was 2h Bmin 40sec.
