STEAMER TEES “BUMPS”
REPORTED TO HAVE STRUCK OBJECT IK STRAITS [Pur United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. The steamer Tees,’ How at Lyttelton* is reported to have' struck an object while passing through the straits between Owenga and Pitt Islands, in the Chathams, last week. The vessel was in the straits at midnight battling with heavy seas, when she ran into a wall of water, bumped heavily, and was carried on by a big following sea. When the vessel humped she lurched heavily and shipped much water, causing a good deal of alarm among the 21 passengers. The Tees is to be docked at Lyttelton for survey. It is understood that a preliminary marine inquiry has already been held at Wellington.
