DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE SOUTH OTAGO FREEZINGS JUMP 10/A firmer undertone to the local share market resulted in the host morning s business transacted this week. The feature of the market was the sudden rise in boutn Otago Freezing Company’s stock, which rose 10s to buyers at £8 15s. Since the announcement of the one for one bonus share distribution buyers have steadily advanced their prices, but as yet no holders have appeared. Banks were slightly better, with a, fractionallv firmer market for Australian issues. New Zealands had dealings this morning at buyers* price of £2 4s 6d, sellers at the close quoting 3d away. Commercials improved to buyers at 18s 2d, while Unions had buyers 3s above yesterday’s quotation of £8 15s. Goldsbrough, Morts had firm sellers at £1 16s 3d, but buyers did not respond. Bruce Woollens were also marked up, buyers rising to 11s. Broken Hill Proprietary stock moved up further to a market between £4 3s and £4 3s 9d. Australian Glasses held yesterday’s advance, and although the shares were wanted at £4- 14s, holders did not quote. Milburn Lime and Cements also attracted a good demand, the shares moving up under buying pressure to £2 2s. Barrier companies received considerable attention, Broken Hill Souths and North Broken Hills attracting a better market. Mount Lyells also improved, but Mount Morgans dropped back. Exceptionally good prices were realised at the national stock market at Addington to-day, when for the first time a fat cattle show was held m conjunction with the sale. The prizewinning bullock from Outram, a frequent winner at Otago fat stock shows, brought £56, the highest price at the national market for some years. A pen of three bullocks, prize winners m another class, made £36 each, and one bullock from Wanganui £34. ADDINGTON MARKET GOOD FAT CATTLE ENTRY [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. The Addington market to-day drew a very heavy entry of _ fat cattle,_ a cattle show being held in conjunction with it for the first time. Store Sheep.—A small entry met with a good sale for all classes. The, first ewes and lambs of the season, the ewes being aged, made 13s 9d all counted. Spring Lambs.—About 2o spring lambs were offered and sold from 35s to 40s. , Fat Sheep.—Some outstanding show sheep were penned, and these made from £2 12s 6d to £4 12s, the latter being for a pen of four. There were several intermediate prices, the market generally being better than that of last week by 2s to 3s a head. Show wethers, 53s to £4 12s Id ; heavy prime wethers, 43s to 47s Id; light, down to 275; extra prime show ewes, 51s lOd; good heavy, 30s to 35s Id; ordinary, down to 265. Fat Cattle.—There were entries from various parts of the south, the West Coast. § and a few from the North Island. Bidding was very keen, the top figure being £56 for a Shorthorn bullock from Outram (Taieri). A pen of three Aberdeen Angus-Hereford-cross, from Spotswood (North Canterbury) sold at £36 each. In both these cases the cattle were prize winners in their classes. Other high prices were £34 for a Wanganui bullock and from £26 down to £2O. Extra good show steers, to £56: good show steers, £2O to £3O: extra heavy prime, £l6 10s to £lB 10s; prime heavy. £l4 15s to £l6 ss; prime medium-weight, £l3 15s to £ls; ordinary. £lO to £l2 15s; show heifers, to £l7 10s; good, £lO to £ll ss; medium-weight, £7 5s to £9 ss; light and ordinary, £5 5s to £7; show cows, to £l3 12s 6d; good cows, £8 to £!) 15s; medium, £5 5s to £7 10s; light, to £5. Venlers.—There was an improved sale by 3s to os a head: best runners, £0 10s to £7 18s 6d; prime vealers. £4 12s 6d to £5 2s Cd; medium, £2 17s 6cl to £3 10s; small calves, 25s to £2 17s 6d. Store Cattle.—Dairy cows were indifferently represented, there being no quotable lots. Fat Bigs.—Porkers were bettor by 5s to Cs a head and bacouers by 3s. Choppers sold from 58s 6d to £4 18s Gd; show, to £11; porkers, 31s 6d to 59s 6d (average per lb, 6jd to 7id). Bacouers 59s 6cl to £5 14s 6d (average per lb, 6id to 7d).
