LABOUR DEPARTMENT’S LIBRARY

DAMAGE BY FIRE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 4. Fire which broke out in the Labour Department’s Library about 7 o’clock to-night, practically gutted that section of the department’s offices on the second floor in Hope Gibbons Building. It destroyed a number of files and records, but these are believed to be unimportant. The seat of the fire appeared to be in the corridor next the library. Some papers had evidently been smouldering for some time _ and burned through the partition, igniting the shelves and books in the library.
