“MUCH EXAGGERATED.”

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Folk generally find what they look for, provided they look hard enough. Personally, I went to Cansbrook on Saturday to see a game of football, and despite my ‘ hard looking ” I did not see much in the way of a game. That was my disappointment. Our Presbyterian friends evidently saw what they were looking for, and I am convinced from what I saw out of the corner of my eye that they did see a lot of drinking. But at the same time I am likewise convinced the police on duty did not see the drinking nor much of the few free fights, for the simple reason that they did not go looking for such. The man on the street knows full well that the hotels on Saturday and Sunday too, had a special dispensation, and “ open slather ” was the order of the day. What I do want to know is this: What is the “ modus operand! ” by which hotelkeepers may hoodwink the law to the desecration of the Sabbath when poor old Lon Ching Chong, if he should work in his garden on the Sabbath, is immediately hailed before the court by some valiant man in blue? —I am, etc., Thu Law’s an Ass. August 5.
