BOBBY CALVES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your article ou bobby calves last Saturday mad© pitiful reading. Season after season goes by and little is done to lessen the cruelty to these animals. Only a short time ago an English visitor to Otago commented on the dreadful conditions of most dogs on farms. These highly intelligent animals, whom the farmer could not possibly do without, are poorly housed, not properly fed, and generally neglected and ill-treated. The remedy for this is to give the S.P.O.A. inspector a car, so that he could investigate the cases that are brought to the notice of the society. So far only a small sum has come forward for this object. The people are generous givers for different schemes in, Otago that need help. Will not some organiser start a fund for this worthy object, and not let this blob of dreadful cruelty remain with us?—l am, etc., Interested. August 3-
