“INVASION” OF SOUTHLAND
PREPARATIONS FOR SATURDAY A meeting was held yesterday afternoon of the committee in charge of tho “ invasion ” of Southland on Saturday by Rugby enthusiasts to witness the match between Otago and Southland for the Donald Stuart Memorial Shield. Tho Otago Rugby Union wrote stating that as a curtain-raiser to the big match the Otago and Southland junior representatives would meet. It was also stated that tho secretary of the local union had received a limited number of tickets for tho stand at Rugby Park on Saturday, the price, including admission to tho ground, being 4s. Word was received from the Railway Department to the effect that over 250 scats had already boon booked in the special trains leaving for tho south on Friday night and Saturday morning. A proposal to issue a special badge was defeated, the general opinion being that this should be left to private enterprise. An assurance was given that there would be ample accommodation in Invercargill, Riverton, and Bluff for those who desire to stay overnight in order to witness the band display on Sunday.
