OTAGO DIVISION R.N.V.R.

OFFICERS' ANNUAL BALL The eighth annual ball was held at the divisional headquarters on Saturday night, and proved to be most successful. The decorations were kindly loaned by Messrs Arthur Barnett Ltd., Dawsons Ltd., and Mr M’Gregor, in whose capable hands the battleship grey walls were transformed into , a colourful and gay scene. The \ lighting arrangements controlled' by Mr J. Steele added to the effect, the blue and gold colours of the division predominating in the scheme, with a lighthouse centrally situated throwing out a warning light to all navigators. On arrival the guests were received by Commander and Mrs Fraser, the latter having been presented with a bouquet from the wardroom officer mess president (Lieutenant J. N. Allan). Air Bob Brown’s orchestra left nothing to be desired, and with the singing of old-time melodies they truly entered into the spirit of the evening’s entertainment. Much amusement was given by the efforts of the wardroom officers’ sextet, who rendered to the tune of 1 My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean ’ a humorous ditty concerning the meanderings of local personalities. The buffet supper arrangements were most successful, and sincere thanks are duo to the ladies who made this possible. _ Proceedings terminated at midnight with the singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne ’ and the National Anthem, the guests departing in a very happy mood.
