STABILISATION OF THE DOLLAR
ALTERATION OF GOLD CONTENT THE PRESIDENT’S WARNING. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright , WASHINGTON, August 3. (Received August 4, at 1.35 p.m.) President Roosevelt sent a letter to Senator Thomas objecting to the latter’s proposal to create a sliding scale of values by altering the dollar’s theoretical gold content. The President issued a warning that it would be dangerous to attempt adjustment to any rigid pattern, and declared that stabilisation of the dollar must come from balanced, orderly recovery by way of national economy. He called the tripartite monetary agreement a step towards external stabilisation of the dollar.
