TROTTING

FORBURY PARK CLUB The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Forbury 1 ark Trotting Club was held last night, the president (Mr B. S. Irwin) occupying the chair. There were also present Messrs J. M. Samson, James Mitchell, H. Archbold, A. G. Neill,’ C. Hadfiekl, J. Richardson, and J. Black. A PETITION QUESTIONED, Mr J. R. M'Kemsie wrote stating that it had come to his knowledge that his name was attached to a petition asking that the 75 and 25 per cent, totalisator be adopted for trotting meetings throughout New Zealand. He denied that he had attended any meeting with the object of advocating this system of betting and that he had signed any petition. Apparently his name had been added to the petition by someone who had no authority whatever to sign it. He was of opinion, Mr M'Kcnzie wrote, that clubs themselves should bo the best judges as to what system of totalisator dividend was most suitable for their respective districts. It was possible, he suggested, that there might be other names which, like his own, had been added to the petition without the signature or sanction of the persons concerned. “ I think that letter should go to the Press.” Mr Neill remarked. “ It naturally throws doubt on other names on tile petition.” Mr Neill added that the Owners’ ami Breeders’ Association

should be written to asking how Mr M'Kenaio’s name had been attached to the petition. It was decided to writ© to Mr M'Kenzie thanking him for bringing the matter under the committee's attention, and also to the Owners’ and Breeders’ Association along the lines suggested by Mr Neill. STIPENDIARY STEWARD’S REPORT. The report of the stipendiary steward (Mr F. J. Beer) on the club’s winter meeting was received and noted. Mr Beer concurred in the Judicial Committee’s decision to take no action as a result of the inquiry into the allegedly inconsistent running of Lucky Jack on the first day of the meeting. Regarding Player’s fall on the second day in the James Memorial Handicap, he had found that this was not caused by any interference, and no inquiry was necessary. SPRING MEETING DATES, A letter was received from the New Zealand Trotting Conference advising that the club’s application for October 21 and 23 as the dates for its spring meeting had been refused. Mr Neill asked why the dates were not granted. Mr Irwin: Because there was a majority of three votes to, none against our application. As an interested party I could not vote. Mr Irwin went on to say that it was explained aC the conference that men went pver to Greymouth to drive on the first day of that meeting, which was held on October -o and 25. If they did not go it woiutl mean ruination to the meeting- I® l '
