DUNEDIN STDCK EXCHANGE "ODD INQUIRY FOR AUSTRALIAN MININS The market generally was fairly steady this morning, with a satisfactory number of transactions. The Australian mining section attracted the most attention and had a firmer undertone. Banks were slightly easier, but the insurance section continued to improve. Industrials were steady at recent rates. The banking section was fractionally easier. New South Wales shares slipped back to sellers at £36 ss, while New Zea-. lands were quiet at £2 4s 9d and £2 5s 6d. Commercials were steady at buyers 18s 4d, sellers not responding. Unions continued to have a weak market, buyers at £lO 14s attracting an answer of £lO 17s. National Insurances continued to firm, buyers moving up to 17s 9d, with sellers appearing 5d away. South British shares had three reported transactions at £4 15s 6d. G. J. Coles were easier at £5 la 6d and £5 2s 3d, while Woolworths (N.Z.) had sellers at £6, with no declared buyers. New Zealand Breweries’ new issue improved 9d to buyers £1 14s 9d, sellers still remaining off. The ordinary shares were wanted at £2 10s, 3s below sellers’ limit. The Australian mining section was very active. Broken Hill Souths had a transaction at £2 8s 6d, buyers at £2 8s at the close remaining unanswered. Electrolytic Zincs (ord.) changed hands at £2 14s 9d, the market closing 6d on either side of that price. Mount Lyells had business at sellers’ price of £2 2s, an unsupplied buyer offering £2 Is lid at the close. Mount Morgans had dealings at 12s 4d, quotations closing Id on either side. July IS THE SEARCH FOR SOLD REXMAN MINES LTD. Reporting for the week ended June 25, the manager of the Rexman Mines says that the whole staff was engaged on miscellaneous work connected with the details of the mill. On account of wet weather the company’s prospector was unable to continue the trenching of Carvel Reef, a.ad he was transferred to: the head of Lanigan’sKGully* where Geraldine Reef should be found on the hanging wall of the main intrustive. About 17 chains north-west of Carvel Reef some high grade quartz was located, but this was not in situ. The reef which shed this is close at hand, and a few days’ work should suffice to locate it. NIPPON YUSEN KAIBHA The directors of the Nippon Yusen Kaisha Shipping Company, Japan, m their statement of the assets and liabilities for the term ended March 31 last report that the surplus of earn* ings after deducting current expenditure for the past half-year amounts to 12,540.818,04 yen, out of which .there have been provided for depreciation of the fleet' and buildings, 4,085,492.27 yen; insurance fund, 222,282,54 yen; ships’ structural repair fund, 1,065,037.62 yen. Total, 6,372,812.43 yen. A balance of 9,962,832.78 yen it left, including 2,784,827.17 yen brought .forward from the last account. The directors proposed that this surplus be appropriated us follows:—Legal reserve fund 400,000.00 yen, special reserve for depreciation of ships 6,000,000.00 yofi dividend (6 per cent, per annum) 1,927,500.00 yen: total, 7,327,500.00 yen. The balance or 2,625,332.78 yen was carried forward to the next account. During the half-year insurance premiums amounting to 820,592,06 yea were paid under a separate item. The value of the yen at ’ March 31 was 13 31-32 d to 14 1-82 in sterling, par is 24.58 dof local currency. The company’s fleet, including vessels building and steam launches and tugs, numbers 104 of an aggregate gross tonnage of 700,720 tons, and the affiliated Kinkai Yusen Kaisha fleet numbers 61 vessels (one building) and steam tugs and launches aggregating 161,314 gross tons.
