INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE
The following were present at the monthly meeting of the Executive Council, which was held at Wellington recently:—Mr F. S. Pope (president), Dr Oliver, Messrs Campbell, MacKenzie, Dallas. Mason, Poole, Hyde, and G. S. N IC °H (Dominion secretary). An apology was received from Mr T Waugh. On the invitation of the Wellington Philosophical Society, the president agreed to act as the institute’s representative on the committee set up in connection with the erection of a suitable memorial -to Dr Cockayne, F.R.S., to mark his grave in the Otari Open-air Native Plant Museum. Acknowledgments of the programme of National Horticultural Week, to be held at Christchurch from January 25, 1938, were received from the New Zealand Horticultural Trades Association and the Canterbury Horticultural Society. The Superintendent of Parks and. Reserves at Invercargill advised that, in a new agreement between his City Council and a Southland Labour union, it had been arranged that holders of the institute’s diploma in horticulture should receive higher remuneration on account of this qualification, and appreciation of this action was expressed. It was decided to advise district councils of the position. It was resolved to send a reply to the proposed national dahlia society, Hamilton, on the lines discussed.
