FAREWELL TO JUDGE AYSON THE NEW WIRELESS STATION [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July 1. The correspondent of the United Press Association, writing from Rarotonga, states that Judge Ayson, prior to leaving for New Zealand, where he will return to the Native Land Court, was tendered many farewells by every section of the community at Rarotonga, where ho has held the office of Resident Commissioner since 1922. On June 16th tho natives gathered at Taputapuatea, whore farewell speeches, and songs specially written for the occasion were delivered. The judge was presented with a cheque with which to buy a memento by tho European section, and a beautiful inlaid table by the Arikis’ chiefs and natives, and a farewell ball was tendered in the evening. Tho Coronation stamps for tho Cook Islands were issued on June 1. The denominations are Id, 2£d, and 6d Mote than 70,000 first day covers wore handled at the Post Office at Rarotonga. The Penrhyn wireless station was opened on June 24 and is working excellently. The island is the northernmost of the Cook group, being 967 miles north of Rarotonga. The Pnkapuka station will he erected during the year. The Matua took the following fruit under Government fruit control:— Oranges: From Maugaia, 4,548 cases; Mauke, 4,255; Rarotonga, 1,126. Tomatoes: 2.678 boxes from Rarotonga, 236 from Mangaia. Bananas: 1,622 boxes from Rarotonga. The prices paid were as follow:—• Tomatoes, 3s 6d to 4s for the fruit alone; delivered to the wharf. 6s to 6s 6d f.o.b. Bananas: 2s 6d to 3s for the fruit alone; delivered to tho wharf, 6s to 6s 6d f.o.b.
