YACHTING AFFAIRS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association met last night, those present being Messrs W. J. Bardsley (president), G. F. Bewley, E. O. Yates, C. Smith, W. H. Sell, F. Partel, W. G. Hewitt, and F. C. Brown (secretary) . The offer of the Wellington Y*cht and Motor Boat Association to allow the Sanders Gup contest for 1938 to he sailed on the Otago Harbour on condition that Wellington had the contest in 1940 was accepted. A grant of £lO was made to the Otago Power Boat Club towards the expenses of sending Miss Otago to represent the province at the last Masport Cup contest. It was reported that, although the project for the organisation of a queen carnival, which would have as its principal object the provision of funds that would enable the association to build a fleet of Idle Alongs, had not met with the unanimous approval of the clubs in the harbour, and had therefore been abandoned, three clubs— North-east Harbour, Vauxhall. and Otago Power Boat Club—intended to build at least one Idle Along each to encourage the younger yachtsmen.
