CARE OF ANIMALS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I whs very sorry to read that Mr Frew’s hospital lias to close down through lack of support. I think it would be a good thing if a street collection could bo taken up now and again to help our dumb friends. There is so much cruelty among animals, especially cats. I road in Saturday night’s paper about a man putting a dog on to a poor, helpless cat. That man, if you would call him so, wants a few strokes of the birch. Is there no law to stop this cruelty? 1 heard of a case a while back of a young fellow who took a cat on to the children’s playground in Roslyn and beat it to death in front of children. One asked him why he did not drown it. and he said “it was too easy.” If this is allowed to go on, where will it end? Hoping punishment will bo meted out to these heartless people.—lam,etc., Lover of Animals. June 28.
