THE LISTENERS’ LEAGUE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —While ignoring tho anonymous “ Fiat Lux,” 1, along with the president, cannot agree that tho league has gone Labourite. Perhaps tho following will convince the president that I attended the meeting. He read his speech to an audience of 35, in case his head should run away with his tongue, or by chance ho should he misrepresented. His first motion was seconded by an elderly gentleman in the front row. Messrs J. D. M'Kowen and A. E. Greenway and two others were elected, though absent, hut no apologies or consents were sustained for them. No balance sheet was presented, nor any reference made to the finances of tho league, except that it was deemed injudicious to_ raise the subscription to 2s 6d to provide a bonus for the secretary’s pecuniary benefit. The president would have us believe that he does not know that the seciretary is a partner or shareholder in a B station situated in the Octagon, and that he is also rinawaro that a second member of the executive is also so em£loyed. I am a member of the listeners’ League, but my receipt does not bear an identifying number, therefore ray concern regarding a balance sheet. ’ The number of members, being 700, does not constitute 2£ per cent, of tho licensees in Otago, which shows practical acceptance of tho national stations’ programmes by the other 30,000. In view of this lack of confidence in the league I would suggest to the president and secretary that both should resign and allow the executive to find another set of officers who have no connection with any B class station, but first of all notify all members by post of the financial affairs of the league.—l am, etc., , June 28. A. Rowan. [The secretary denies ho is either a partner or shareholder in a B station.—Ed. E.S.j
