BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION At a meeting of the North Otago Basketball Association at the conclusion of the matches on Saturday, the secretary reported that August 7 was not suitable to Otago for the annual representative match, and it was decided to suggest August 14 for this fixture. Upper Waitaki wrote applying for affiliation with North Otago, and suggested that a representative game should be played at the end of the season. It was decided to fix tho affiliation fee in the meantime at 10s, and to suggest August 17 for the representative match. ST. NORTH OTAGO RUGBY UNION Tho weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the North Otago Rugby Union was_ hied last night. Mr G. Knowles (president) presided, and others present were Messrs D. Burns, A. Low, L. Ward, J. Hopley, R. Watson, B. Turner, M. F. Woodward. Mr Turner was appointed manager of the Town team to play Country on Saturday. Mr L. Ward reported that as the Kurow and Duntroon grounds were frozen hard it might be impossible to have the Town-Country match on Saturday played in the country. Mr Ward stated that the sub-union had originally selected Kurow as the venue, but had changed to Duntroon, as the former ground was under snow. However, it appeared that the Duntroon ground w-aa now in a similar condition.—The matter was left to a subcommittee to make the necessary arrangements. An invitation was received from the Old Boys’ Club to attend its annual ball.—The president was delegated to attend. The South Canterbury Union advised that it would send a junior representative team to Oamaru on July 24.—Received. Tho Eastern Districts (Palmerston) Sub-union wrote expressing appreciation of the union’s action in agreeing to play the junior game as the curtainraiser at Palmerston this year.
It was decided to write to all senior clubs in the town and country as to the players available for the northern tour.
Mrs D. Burns advised that she would be unable to attend to the representative jerseys this year.—Left in the. hands of the secretary with power to act. H. Mason wrote stating that, owing to family responsibilities, he regretted h© would be unable, in the event of selection, to make the North Island tour. In view of this he felt it would be only fair to stand aside for a successor in the Town-Country game, in order that combination might be acquired from the outset.—lt was decided to notify the selectors, and to thank Mr Mason for his generous action.
It was agreed that the junior team having the bye on July 10 play Tokarahi at Tokarahi.
Regradings were granted as follow: —Maheno: J. Cook, senior to junior. Excelsior: R. Gleesou, R. Luxon, R. Harwood, W. Carson, I. Cayford, senior to junior D. Cagney was granted a transfer from the Kiwi Club (Hokitika) to Old Boys. In accordance with notice of motion Mr Turner moved that the decision to send 21 players and a manager on tour be _ rescinded. Mr Turner was of the opinion that a coach _ should be sent with the team in addition to a manager.—lt was agreed, on an amendment by Mr Woodward, to write to the union’s delegate in Wellington (Mr Wallace) asking, what time he was prepared to give to coaching the touring team. —Amended Town Team.— The Town team to play Country on Saturday has been amended as fol-lows:—Full-back, S. KODEL AEROPLANE COMPETITION A very interesting competition was held between the Waitaki Boys’ High School and Aorangi Model Aeroplane Clubs during the week-end. The contest was run under the New Zealand Model Aeroplane Association’s rules. The conditions were wintry, with a westerly breeze. The Aorangi Club won by 21 points to 9.
