FITNESS OF SCHOOL BUSES

FURTHER STATEMENT BY MINISTER [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 24. In a long statement to-day in regard to the fitness of school buses, the Minister of Education (the Hon. P. Fraser) said they must have fitness certificates. “ They are no longer exempt under the Transport Act, the exemption having been revoked last December,” he said. “All possible steps are being taken to ensure that at the earliest possible date every vehicle carrying school children will be inspected.” Mr Fraser also said that statistics since March 15, covering well over 500 accidents, revealed that there was only one accident involving a school bus, and in that case it was found that the vehicle was in excellent condition and fully complied with the transport requirements. . , , The requirements in regard to ventilation and any othex* factor affecting health would he insisted on.
