It is open to each church to use its bwn methods, but everywhere the 8.8. places great emphasis on the cultivation of a corporate spirit in what is reverent towards God and brotherly towards man. This spirit lay® hold ot the imagination and stirs the sentiments; it appeals to the community instincts and sanctifies the social feelings of its members. The monour of the company is in the keeping of each member;, he feels that he does not stand alone, nor for himself only. There is a sense of comradeship in life, wnicn is a valuable asset, THE DOMINION PRESIDENT. Our president, who Las recently been visiting the Old Country and has made contacts frith the Boys’ Brigade in the [United Kingdom, took the opportunity while passing through Dunedin to meet the members of the local executive. He expressed his regrets at his inability to visit the individual companies, but assured the_ battalion of his interest in all the activities of the companies, and expressed to each company, through the executive, his best wishes - for a prosperous session in 1937. Ist DUNEDIN GRENFELL. Following ambulance, the company paraded, at 7.30. Inspection was quite up to standard, Corporal Jones gaining highest marks. Worship was followed by squad drill, taken by Lieutenant D. Meiklejohn. Physical exercises and 'signalling instruction were then held, hand Soccer bringing the parade to a close. The company .was pleased to welcome two members of the committee, Mr J. Baines and Mr Mackay, who expressed pleasure with all that was carried put, v ' 6th DUNEDIN. J 'A combined church parade with the ; Guides, -Brownies, and Life Boys was x held at the Central Mission. Life Boy ,i Leader G. Adams and the Rev. B. M. A Tasker (captain of the company) took 'part in the service, at which Cyril Arthur and Mae Calder were dedicated " .to their work as lance-corporals. The company is practising hard for its concert, and under the leadership of Mr, ' Adams it gives promise of being a great - success. With the aid of the concert v ”'tho company hopes to make 8.8. week an outstanding event in the session. 7th DUNEDIN. . Twenty boys attended the weekly parade, when worship, inspection, drill, and games were. held. An exciting yam on Chinese life proved a welcome addition- to the programme. In an endeavour to raise the strength of the company to beyond the 30 mark a further recruiting period commences on, Saturday night. / ' Bth DUNEDIN. The company paraded on Tuesday night; and was pleased to- see one of its old members back. The signalling instruction was carried out under strict mips, and showed room for improvement. Physical drill preceded the games, in which a lively game of handball Was played. .The thanks of the company are due to a medical student, who gave an interesting talk on the functions of the heart. 11th DUNEDIN. There were 16 boys on parade on Monday night, and after the fall-in and inspection, Captain Gillions welcomed Captain Hislop. After devotions there was 15 minutes’ drill, be fore the boys were broken off to signalling, ambulance, and physical training squads. . Several rounds ot two-a-side hand Soccer were played,, and . later, the n.c.o.s defeated the officers by 1 goal to 0 After reminding the boys of 8.8. Week, and the company’s birthday next month, Captain Gillions dismissed the parade. 12th DUNEDIN (MAORI HILL), ■;The company paraded in the Maori Hill. Presbyterian Church. Badge lyork is in full swing, and, as the ambulance examination will be held during next month, extra classes will be held. Keenness is being shown in the squad competition, _ while games form a very enjoyable part of the evening. The, company was pleased to have as inspecting officer and devotional leader its former captain, Mr Snedden, who Wished the company every success. A good night’s work concluded with the library being well patronised. 13th DUNEDIN (MORNINGTON). Thirteen boys paraded on Tuesday might. Devotional exercises concluded with the singing of a hymn and a short talk by the captain. Inspection was then taken, followed by signalling and ambulance. A new member was welcomed, bringing the roll to 15. An enjpyable half-hour followed with games, A squad gaining a good victory. 16th DUNEDIN COMPANY (Caversham Presbyterian). Twenty-seven members of the company paraded last Saturday evening. The appearance and discipline of the company shows marked improvement, and competition between the four squads is very close. All were pleased to have with them Mr Wilson, an exJB.B. captain, and Mr Tom Jamieson, an old boy of the company, who instructed the junior semaphore class. The company is busy preparing for the battalion drill competition. A regular physical training class has commenced, the work at present consisting of physical jerks, horizontal bar, and maze drill. Classes in Morse, semaphore, and ambulance are also making good progress. After games a story by the captain brought the parade to a close. The intersquad competition for the past mouth was won by Lance-corporal
Macall and S squad, and a prize for the best all-round boy wont to Private D. Beatson. Plans aro well in hand for 8.8. Week, whiolx it is hoped will not only benefit the treasury but also make known the 8.8. work in the parish. Parents night will be held on July S. 8.8, officers and battalion officials are invited to be present.
