AUCKLAND-WELLINGTON AIR SERVICE
INAUGURATION CEREMONIES [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND. June 22. The ceremonies to mark the inauguration of the Auckiand-Wellington air service of Union Airways of New Zealand Ltd. on Saturday will take place at the northern terminal of the route, the Mangere Aerodrome. Before the departure of the south-bound air liner at 10 o’clock the aeroplane, probably the Kotare, one of the new Lockheeds, will be named by the Mayor of Auckland (Sir Ernest Davis), and the service will be formally inaugurated by the Minister of Defence (Hon. I. Jones). Two special flights have been arranged by the company to take the guests from Auckland and Wellington respectively to Palmerston North, where a luncheon will be held. There will also be a brief ceremony at New Pymouth en route.
PARISH OF ST. JOHN, ROSLYH The annual meeting of parishioners was held in the Parish- Hall on Monday, June 14. His Lordship. Bishop Fitchett (vicar) presided and there was an attendance or 54 parishioners. The motion to adopt-the annual report and statement of accounts was moved by the vicar, who reviewed briefly the most important items and happenings during the year. Mr John Simpson, parishioners’ warden, seconding the motion, referred to the satisfactory report of the year’s work and hoped that all parishioners would continue to give the wardens and vestry the same support in the eoming year. Mr J. T. Dawson and Mr W. K. Karnshaw (secretary) also spoke to the motion dealing with sonic of the details in the accounts. _ The motion, on being put, was carried unanimously. His Lordship re-appointed as his warden Mr W. E. Earnshaw, and Mr John
Simpson was re-elected as parishioners’ warden. 'The following were elected members of the vestry:—Messrs B. W. S. Hotting, L. B. Bradstock, F. L. Buttle, T. Conly, W. J. Davie, L. W. Green, A. Goodley, E. Moir, E. Rackley, F. J. D. Rolfe. Messrs G. Z. Lindley and J. T. Dawson were re-appointed auditors, and a vote of thanks was conveyed to them for their services in auditing this year’s accounts. A vote of thanks was also conveyed to Mr R. E. Davidson, who had been a member of the vestry for several years and did not this year seek re-election.
Reference to the death of the Rev. Geo. West who went from the parish to the Melanesian Mission was made, and the question of the erection in the church of srvie suitable memorial to his memory was referred to the vestry. A vote of thanks to Rev. L. D. C. Groves, who had again proved such an able assistant, and to all parish organisations and church workers, was moved by the vicar and carried unanimously by acclamation. A vote of thanks to the vicar and the
members of his family for their great interest and assistance in the wovk of St. John’s was also carried by acclamation.
Congratulations were conveyed to Dr A. R. Falconer on being appointed a Knight of the Order of St. John and to Mrs Falconer on being appointed an officer of the Order. A vote of thanks to the vicar as chairman at this and all meetings during the year concluded the meeting, and supper was dispensed by the ladies of the afternoon guild, and a pleasant social hour spent.
