MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE

CHARGES DEFINITELY FIXED NO FEES ON PUTTING GREEN Fees to he charged when the Chisholm Park golf links open were fixed by the City Council last night, Cr W. H. Shepherd succeeding inTiaying the proposed charges for use of the putting green withdrawn. Cr W. W. Batchelor, moving the adoption of the Reserve Committee’s report, said the charges recommended for the Chisholm Park golf links were: —Nine-hole golf course, Is per round; pitch and putt course (No. 1), 6d for nine holes; pitch and putt course (No. . 4d for nine holes; putting green, <tcl for 18 holes. The charges were the same as those at Wellington. Cr D. C. Cameron said concern was being expressed by the Anderson’s Bay and Tainui Schools that the course would rob the children of a' playing ground at Chisholm Park. The superintendent of reserves had informed him there would still be plenty of ground in which the children could play._ Cr Shepherd explained that his objection at the last meeting of the council was not to the course charges but to the proposed fees for the 18-hole putting green. He considered that the committee should have asked for his views. On Friday, he visited, the course in company with Mr D. Tannock and the leading golf professional of Otago, and the superintendent agreed with their view that no charge should be made, in the meantime., for ' V use of the putting green, which was situated, as on all courses, adjacent to the first tee, and would be used by players to fill in their time while waiter for others to drive off. A round on’ the putting green. should be included in the charge for the course proper. Tho mayor’s suggestion that the charge for the putting green be deted from the recommendation was accented by the reserves chairman, who said that, not being a golf player, he did not understand the position.
