SOUTH END CLUB
SOCIAL GATHERING To introduce itself to the public, the South End Club held its first open function on Saturday in its new dub rooms at the Marigold Salon, Tainui. The evening took the form of a social gathering to which young men and women from various youth organisations were invited. Some 120 young people were present, the greater part of the evening being devoted to games. Variety was added to the proceedings by the exhibition of a short comic film. Much interest, too, was evoked by an exhibition of table tennis by Messrs Stanton and Brqwn, of th© Dunedin Club. Music , for the various games was provided by Messrs Moore ("accordion) and King, who also gave several request items, which were warmly applauded. Although this was tho first public function the club had organised, there have been several functions of a private nature in addition to the club’s ordinary activities. A happy afternoon was spent recently with a party of boys from the Glendiniug Homo at Anderson’s Bay. Following on a visit to tho Southern Reservoir, the boys were the guests of the club at a tea and games evening. A parents’ and families’ evening, held early in May, gave a number of parents and friends the opportuniy of seeing over the club’s new quarters and joining in some of its activities. Tho club has three teams affiliated with tho Otago Table Tennis Association engaged in weekly competition. Under the tuition of Mr S. J. Williams, the weekly physical culture class is proving more popular and beginning to show results. The club is inviting the children from various orphanages to its concert on Saturday evening.
