REPORT ON MILK SUPPLY ENGAGEMENT OF MR H. E. HERRON The General Committee reported to the City Council last night that advice had been received from Mr H. E. Herron, general manager of the Wellington City Corporation Milk Department, to the effect that he is prepared to investigate and report to the council on the milk supply problem of the city at a fee of £lls 10s, such fee to include all expenses—travelling and hotel—and the cost of furnishing copies of the report. The committee recommended that It be empowered to arrange any necessary details with Mr Herron. The report was adopted without discussion. There were present—The Mayor (Rev, E. T. Cox), Crs M. Silverstone, W. A. Scott, D. C. Cameron, W. W. Batchelor, J., W. Munro, M.P., A. H. Allen, W. Begg, W. 11. Shepherd. TRAM CONCESSION TICKETS. Cr Begg expressed his disappointment at the nature of the report submitted by the Tramways Committee on the question of providing further facilities for the purchase of tramway concession tickets It looked to him as though nothing would be done ; until a notice of motion was brought before the council. The Mayor: It is not in the interests of the department to make it easier for people to buy tickets. Cr Batchelor: It is a question of finance. Cr Begg; Wc have heard that cry for years. ROSLYN CEMETERY RESERVE. Moving the adoption of the Reserves Committee’s report, Cr Batchelor said the medical officer of health was informed that tho Eoslyn Cemetery Reserve was not suitable for a cemetery, and the area of 10 acres, used for many years for grazing purposes, would be converted into a reserve. It was situated above Fraser’s Gully. SHORTLAND STREET. Cr Allen drew attention to the fact that no provision had been made by tho Works Committee for the carrying out of improvements to Shorthand street, Caversham, although a resolution had been passed by the council that tho work be done out of the current year’s allocations. “ Evidently it has been overlooked,” he commented. Cr Munro said he had no recollection of the matetr. Voices: Yes, it was passed by the council. Cr Munro said he would look into the matter, and if the resolution had been passed by the council the engineer would have to be asked to give way on some other work. A Voice: Perhaps it was provided for in the £IOO,OOO loan. Cr Munro: The Minister of Finance (referring to Cr Silverstone) states that there is no money for the work. Cr Allen: He has only one vote. DUKE’S ROAD HIGHWAY. When the Finance Committee’s report was being discussed,, Cr Silverstone complimented the Taien County Council on deciding to contribute £750, leaving the city’s share at £2,250, towards the cost of improving and sealing the surface of the roadway to the city airport, known as tho DunedinDuke’s road main highway. He was satisfied that the county council had given up to its limit. Cr Munro said the county council had shown a fine community spirit, as the highway would be of little us© to the county. The report was adopted. HOUSING CLERK OF WORKS. Mr A. French was appointed clerk of works for the erection of houses at Clydehill. LIBRARY ASSISTANT. Miss M. E. Brown was appointed an assistant at tho Public Library. TENDERS ACCEPTED. The following tenders were accepted : For the suppply and delivery of a portable air compressor—Messrs J. J Niven and Co.
