GOVERNMENT NEGOTIATIONS FOR PURCHASE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 8. Mr Semple stated to-day that a careful examination had been made embracing the whole field of road and rail competition, and it had been decided to commence negotiations with the following services, the schedules all operating over relatively long distances, the longest being Wellington-New Plymouth and the shortest WellingtonFeatherston, 42 miles; — Auckland District.—Northern Transport Ltd., F. Wright and Co. Ltd., Cunningham Carrying Co. Ltd., Highways Transport Ltd., W. J. Lankey, Tomkies’ Transport Co. Ltd., H. J. Williams and Co. Ltd., Mason Transport Co., J. M. Thomson, Hurley Transport Co. Ltd, Wellington Express Co. Ltd., Symcs Transport Co., E. Lay, Napier-Wollington Daily Transport Co., Ltd., Economic Transport Service (J. G. Heron), C. F. Doggett, H. B. W. Osborne, R. D. Yeoman, Hopcraft’s Transport, J. Cleghorn, D. M. Conway, G. P. Hatfield, A. J. Allison , W. J. M'Gill, J. J. and W. H. Hadley, P. L. Darke, S. G. Cook, H. M. Cherry, and M. Mulvaney. Canterbury District. —H. D. Learaan, X. D. Miller, Whittaker and Payton, Ashburton Transport Co. Ltd., Humphries Motors, A. J. M. Wheeler, A. B. Hnvward. . Otago and Southland District. —G. A start will be made with the service Auckland-Whangarci, and services running south from Auckland will _be dealt with next, while those running out of Wellington, Christchurch, ant] Dunedin will be dealt with in that order.
