EXCEPTIONAL ACTIVITY

BUILDING DURING APRIL WORK COVERS WIDE FIELD Building permits issued by the City Corporation during April indicate exceptional activity in the trade at the present time. Work valued at £50,643 was sanctioned, permits amounting to the unusually large total of 103. For the previous month the figures were 88 and £35,734, while for April last year the figures were 71 and £23,808. Domestic work continued to provide the bulk of the work for the trade, no fewer, than 25 new dwellings figuring in the list of permits as well as a large number of alterations and additions. On the commercial side, however, several fair-sized contracts were secured, though the most substantial

job undertaken involved the erection of a new building for the St. John Ambulance Association. The .domestic work also involved two contracts providing for six more flats. PRINCIPAL CONTRACTS. Ltd., additions to Mackintosh, Caley, Phoenix Company’s premises, Maclaggan street, £1,920. 0. L. Anderson, composite dwelling, Melbourne road. 6. P. Mills, composite dwelling, Neidpath road, R. Mitchell, brick building for the St. John Ambulance Association, lower York Place, £8,900. A. Anderson, wooden dwelling, Merchison street. T. R. Hindle, wooden dwelling, Wy-y colla extension. G. A.
