Two good games were seen on the Balclutha ground yesterday, when Cultha and High School third grade teams met, and Clutha I. and Star also tried conclusions. In the firstmentioned game the teams were very evenly matched, and it was not till towards the end that the School team gained the ascendancy. Play of an even nature took place in the first part of the game, and although both teams had spells at attacking there was no score at the interval. Early in the second spell Stewart scored first blood for School, Allan failing to convert. Stark levelled the scores, Dawkins failing to add the major points. After a series ot attacks Parr scored for School, and then from a good movement Guest scored. Towards the finish Randle kicked a penalty goal for Clutha, and the game ended 9-6 in School’s favour. Mr G. Little refereed. In the Clutha-Star game the home backs proved the best, but the visiting forwards had the advantage of weight and played a great game. The lighter Clutha pack put up a good defence; but it was to the backs that the credit must go on the day’s play. The first score was got bv Greenall, who beat the Star full-back badly. Shand converted. 5-0. Shortly after, when play was about midfield, Clutha were penalised, and D. Harraway kicked a great goal from about halfway. 5-3. Playwent up and down. Star having the advantage; but the defence held and they could not break through. Towards the end of the spell Shand went over to score a great try after receiving the ball from Stephens, who sold the “ dummy.” 8-3. There was lio change at half-time. Early in the spell Brown scored a nice try. 13-3. Star now livened up. and Clutha had to force on two or. three occasions. After strenuous efforts Barnett went over to score. 13-6. Clutha now livened up a bit and attacked for a time, and finally as a result of a good movement Shand scored again. 18-6. The latter stages of the game favoured Clutha, and from a penalty Bowcott goaled, and later scored a try, making the final scores 24-6 in favour of the home team. Mr L. Edwards refereed.

Playing on a heavy ground. Crescent beat the Catlins team after a hard game by 9 points to 3. C. Wilson scored for Catlins, while Stephenson scored two tries for Crescent.
