MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board was held last night, air d. W. Dove (chairman) presided and) members , present were: Mrs Ross, Misses Runciman and Farquhar, Messr* A. F. Quelch, A. Steel, M. Silverstone, P. W. Venn, H, S. Sheat, D. M'Len-. man, arid Dr Newlands. Letters! were the Prime Minister and the. Mayor of Dunedin, asking for co-operation in.‘the'■appeal' for the , King George V. National Memorial Fund.—:Referred to the Finance Committee. The. Director-General of Health forwarded the approval of . the Minister of Health of the honorary staff appointReceived. The approval was received of the Director-General of Health for the plans of extensions to the Nurses’* Home at Wakari.—The letter was received, the Chairman stating that the. plans had l been passed on to the archi- ■ tect. ' _ ■ ■■; ■ Ministerial approval of expenditure for the erection of a new sewing room and alterations to the linen room 'at the Hospital was forwarded' by_ the Director-General of Health.—Received. Arrangements for the visit of the Governor-General (Lord Galway) to the board’s institutions were'left in the hands of the chairman. . The New Zealand Crippled Children’s Society wrote expressing appreciation of the board’s work during the recent epidemic and forwarded a cheque for £2s.—Received with thanks. Invitations were * received from tha Rev. D. C. Herron and Mqnsigneur Morkane to attend the Hospital Day; services on May 9.—Accepted. A letter was received from Miss M< Watts advising the board of her inability to accept an appointment. a* sister at Pleasant Valley Sanatorium* —Received. Mr A. F. Rennie, laundry manager* forwarded his resignation. An application by the Maniototo Hospital Board for an agreement to reduce the charge for maintenance to 12s a day was declined. . A letter was received from the. South? Canterbury Board advising that the charge for hospital maintenance had been increased to 15s a day.—Noted. The Secretary recommended • the remission of accounts totalling £2,096 16# 2d,, due for maintenance.;—Adopted.' SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The medical superintendent _ (Dr JThomson) reported that 299 patients remained in the Hospital from the previous month and 471 had been admitted during March. A total of 487 had been discharged, one had died, leaving 283 still in the institution. During the 1 period 1,887 out-patients had been treated, there had been 97 attendance* at the tuberculosis department,'3ss attire radiology department, and 2,605 for massage, medical exercises, and medical electricity. .
