SHORTER SUPPLIES RECEIVED HEAVY FROSTS AFFECT TOMATOES Reilly's report that during the past week supplies of all lines of fruit and produce have been in shorter supply. Only small consignments of apples have come to hand, ■ and values for good dessert varieties show a slight improvement. The principal varieties of apples being received are Jonathans and Delicious, also Granny Smiths, with, a few small consignments of Coxes Orange. Dessert pears have a good inquiry, the principal varieties arriving being Winter Coles and Winter Nelis.' . Only small consignments of tomatoes are coming to hand ; heavy frosts now being experienced in most districts; values have firmed very considerably. Supplies of local hothouse tomatoes are now being received. Grapes are realising good values, and some fine of Gros Colmars are arriving. Quinces are short of requirements, and values this season are high. ' . ~ Oranges are practically unobtainable, small supplies of Californian Navels transhipped from Auckland bringing extreme values. Ample supplies of lemons are available. A small shipment of pineapples is due by the Waikouaiti. There is a good demand dor ripe bananas. A further _ shipment of Samoans by the Matua is due in Auckland on Monday. , , Vegetables have a slightly better demand, although prices for both cabbage and cauliflowers are still on the low side. Small consignments of green peas are being received, and for good quality, prices have firmed. Fairly heavy consignments of pumpkins, marrows, and jam melons were received from the North Island, and met with a good inquiry. The potato market is firm. . Hdney has a good inquiry. Egg values have firmed 3d a dozen during the week, guaranteed now, realising 2s 3d a dozen. .... Prices continued to be satisfactory for poultry.
