BREACHES OF MINES ACT ALLEGED FORTY-TWO SUMMONSES ISSUED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, April 21. (Received April 22, at 11 a.m.) The hearing in connection with 42 summonses issued at Gresford was opened at Wrexham. They relate to alleged neglect to provide proper ventilation and failure to report the true condition of the airways in the workings, failure records, and alleged illegal shot firings. Sir Terence O’Connor (Solicitor-Gene-ral) said he did not intend to mince words. The conditions in the mine were horrible. Sir Terence O’Connor emphasised that there was no allegation that any of the defendants or the company were responsible by the acts with which they were charged for the explosion itslf. The summonses related to conditions and breaches of the Mines Act before the explosion. The proceedings are likely to last fof a week. [As the result of an explosion in Gresford colliery 265 lives were lost.]
