POLL TAKING PLAGE TO-DAY RESULT EXPECTED AT ABOUT t O'CLICK The result of the poll of ratepayer* being taken to-day on the proposal ofl the City Council to borrow £IOO,OOO for street improvements will be known' about 8 o’clock to-night. At . 9 o’clock this morning polling booths. in the city and suburbs were opened to admit those wishing to vote on the proposal. During the morning there was no rush in any of the 32 polling places, voting proceeding steadily, and it was anticipated that; a larger number of voters would visit the booths this afternoon and evening* The polling places will close at 7j o’clock, and the returning. officer (Mr, R. A. Johnston) requests voters to exercise their franchise as early as possible to avoid any last-minute rush.Arrangements have been made for a speedy, count of the votes at the Town Hall,, and, provided everything works smoothly, as it generally does, the result should be known about 8 o’clock. As has already been _ pointed out,only ratepayers are entitled to vote on the proposal to borrow the £IOO,OOO. Wives and husbands of ratepayers, as the case may be, are also' entitled to exercise their franchise, Th<i total number of names-on the;current ratepayers’ roll is 20,817.
