The Minister asked boards to close their schools during the week in July in which the Now Education Fellowship Conference is to be held. Further, as all schools were closed in February, the May vacation should bo reduced by one week. So far, 350 Otago teachers had enrolled for the conference. The request was approved. PATEAROA CONVEYANCE. The alternative proposals would be to join the Correspondence School, or board away from home, o.r the establishment of two separate household schools. The Chairman reported that he would recommend a contribution from the board! of, £4O if the parents would find £BO, £l2O being approximately the shortage to be made up. The parents now intimated that they would contribute £7O per annum, and the department had been asked to increase its grant by £lO per annum. In the meantime authority had been given to commence the service as far as _ Linnhurn pending the contractor securing a new bus. The chairman’s suggestion was adopted. DUNBACK-PALMERSTON SECONDARY CONVEYANCE. The department had offered to contribute 16s 4d a school day towards the 24s contract price, leaving 7s 8d a school day, or £76 p.a., to be found by the parents. The district traffic manager, in reply to the board’s request that the morning south express stop at Wingatui for the purpose of picking up pupils for Mosgiel, stated that it was unfortunate that the train service between Wingatui and Mosgiel was not more suitable for this purpose, but it was regretted that arrangements could not be made for the mail train to stop at Wingatui. This train had a fast schedule to maintain and any additional stops would necessitate an earlier start from Dunedin. The'parents are to be informed accordingly. , ROXBURGH REQUEST,

The Roxburgh District High School Committee renewed its application on behalf of parents at the Roxburgh Railway Station for the conveyance of their children to school. There were 17 children at the railway station' living one and six-tenth miles from the Roxburgh School, and three other children, two and a-quarter miles. These three others were at present, catered for by the round trip which 'went to Miller’s Flat. The estimated cost of the service was £42 10s, towards which the parents were willing to pay practically half the cost.— I The board regretted that it could not act, as they did not come inside the conveyance distances.
