MEETING OF COUNCIL The Council qf tho University of Otago held its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon; present—The Chancellor (Mr W. J- Morrell), Sir James Allen, Professor C. E. Hercus, Professor R. J. T. Bell, Dr James Fitzgerald, Dr F. C. Batchelor, Messrs L. Deans Ritchie, James Wallace, S. Rice, J. Robertson, G. R. Ritchie, A. Steel, and F. W. Howorth. PRIZES AWARDED. On the nomination of Dr Lawson Mr 0. H. Taylor was given the honour of a Janies Clark prize in education, Tho prize itself has been withdrawn. On the recommendation of the Professorial Board the speaking of English prizes given by the Victoria League were awarded as follow Miss 1). E. Craig 1, Miss L. Mackenzie 2, Miss C Jones 3. Tlio Macgregdr prize was awarded to Mr W. R. Gcddes. GENERAL. Tho Classical ' Association was granted tho use of the Museum lecture room for meetings. Dr Galway was appointed for a further period of three years to represent the Lecturers’ Association on the Professorial Board. Miss C. Mac Gibbon (lecturer in foods) was appointed a member of the home science faculty. It was decided to express appreciation and gratitude to tlio Minister of Education for grants for the Leith wall and a second lecture theatre at tho Dunedin Hospital. A request from the Dental Students’ Library Committee for a grant was referred to the Finance Committee, with power to act, the dean of the Dental School to be asked to report. It was decided to place a wreath on the Cenotaph on Anzac Day. _ Last year the council, made a donation of £2 2s towards the R.S.A. funds, but tho association expressed a wisli that a wreath should bo sent, A grant of £SO from the Barnett fund was made for the proceedings of the Medical School. Permission to postpone his tenure of the Macandrcw Scholarship in economics till 1938 was granted Mr J. T. Andrews.
