PLUMMET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the committee of the Plunket Society was attended by Lady Sidey (in the chair). Lady Allen, Mesdames J. Begg, Sandford Cox, A. Begg, R. S. Black, Clapperto.ii, jun., Cleghorn, A. H. Allen, D. Reid, Cairney, Speight, Halstead, Watson, Lindsay Allan, and Gillon (Mosgiol), and J. Williams (hon. secretary). Lady Sidey reported that for the convenience of subscribers Miss Tuck, 154 Princes street, had agreed to allow annual subscriptions to be left at her shop in future. The appointment of Mrs J. Williams to the position of hon. secretary was confirmed. Visiting Committees for the ensuing month were arranged as follow: —May 5, at 2.30, Mesdames F. E. Clapperton, jun., and J. Williams; May 20, at 11, Mesdames D. Reid and Cairney. The Matron of the Truby KingHarris Hospital reported for the month of March :—Patients admitted —mothers 11, babies 26; patients discharged—- , mothers 10, babies 22; largest number

in residence any one day —mothers 6, babies 24. The usual term examinations fo| Karitane and Plunket Nurses were held on March 18 and 23 and' 24 respectively. Patients were _ admitted from tha following districts;—Balclutha (3), Paerau, Waitahuna, Waipiata, and from Dunedin and suburbs. During the month the Hospital had been visited by Mrs Hairis, of London. Two lectures were given to nursej by Dr M. B. M. Tweed (medical ad-j viser to the council) during the monthi Gifts from Mrs D. Solomon and! the Misses Johnson, Bushey Park, were rei ceived with thanks. The following is a summary of tha Plunket nurses’ report for Dunedirt district and out-stations for the month of March: —Babies on the list, 1,651 j older children on the list, 632; visits paid to homes, 1,373; visits paid to office—mothers 1,603, babies 1,493, older children 257; new cases for tha month (babies only), 100; babies breast-fed (including partly), new. cases, 85.
