NORTH OTAGO RUGBY UNION The -weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the North Otago Rugby Union was held last night, ine president (Mr G. The Athletic Club notified that, in view of the fact that a number of members of the fifth grade team were overweight, it had been decided to withdraw from this competition and to enter a B team in the fourth orade competition. Mr Woodward said lie would be able to to enter another school team in the fifth grade, and this matter was left in his hands. Regradings were granted as follow: — Athletic Club, M. Davis, from junior to third grade; Excelsior Club —R. Gleeson, S. Weller, G. White, senior to junior: Southern —R. Rapson, A. Wilson, and J. The North Otago Amateur Athletic Association wrote stating that a meeting had been convened for Thursday night with the object of giving consideration to the Keep-fit Movement, in conformity with the Government s crusade for national physical fitness. Outside entries would have to forward entry fees as well as their registrations with applications. _ Regarding the Manawatu Union s notice of motion to the New Zealand Union anent the proposed alteration of the existing constitution, it was decided to adhere to the present rules. •—North Island Tour.— In connection with the proposed tour of the North Island by a North Otago team during the season, correspondence was received from the Canterbury, Taranaki, and Wairarapa Unions anent the proposed dates for matches. The Canterbury Union advised that, in view of the South African tour, it was found impossible at the moment to make a decision as to the date suitable. The matter would be finalised at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Union. FARADS OF SCHOOL CHILDREN It lias been decided by the _ head masters and teachers of the primary schools of Oamaru and of the secondary schools to have a parade of school children on Coronation Day, May 12. It is proposed to assemble the children at Takaro Park at 1.30 p.m., and the procession, including decorated motor vehicles, will move off at 2 p.m. 1 , proceeding via Severn and Itchen streets to Ribble street, and hack to. Itchen street, and to the park. There the cliiidren will be given short addresses by the mayor (Mr M. F. E. Cooney), the county chairman (Mr J. Rodman), and the rector of the Waitaki Boys High School (Mr F. Milner). It has been suggested that all country school children should _ be invited to participate, and if this proposal meets with the approval of the country teachers and committees, arrangement* will be made to provide the children with refreshments after the procession has concluded. Transport will have to be arranged by each school committee, as no financial assistance is bei-ig offered by the Government, and the cost of providing free transport would bo beyond the resources of the committee in charge, of the arrangements. ' Each child participating in the procession will be supplied with a small Union Jack by the Borough and County Councils. RETAILERS TO ARRANGE FESTOONS At a well-attended meeting of retaili; ers last night, called expressly for the’/ purpose of discussing the question of suitable illuminations and decoration* for Coronation week, it was decided to arrange festoons along Thames street and Tees street as far as Wansbeok street. The question of the decoration of business premises was also discussed, and it was agreed that two canvassers be appointed for various blocks to ascertain what support was forthcoming, and to report to a further meeting of retailers.
