GIRL THIEF'S CUNNING

FEIGNED ACCIDENT TO ESCAPE LONDON, April 10. The way in which a young girl tried to fake an accident after stealing from a store in order to divert attention was described at Kingston, Surrey. Four girls, three of them 13 and the other 12, were charged' with being concerned in stealing various articles from the store, valued at £3 7s 4d. Two pleaded guilty and' the others not guilty. Mr Blake Carr, prosecuting, said that five girls went into the store. The fifth was too young to be charged. Two of the girls were seen to steal the articles, while two others kept watch. The fifth was busy placing the stolen goods into bags. One girl was seen trying on a pair of shoes at the time that her companions took another pair. The ringleader displayed considerable cunning when the party left the store. She deliberately placed one foot between a stationary car and the kerb and screamed' out that the car had run over her. She did this with the intention of gaining the sympathy _of the crowd which soon gathered, hoping to get away in the excitement. She was unhurt. The magistrates discharged one girl on the ground of insufficient evidence, hound over two, and l sent the ringleader toi a remand home for 14 d'ays.
