At the last meeting of the Balclutha Pipe Band Committee the resignation of Mr D. Malcolm, who has held the position of drum-major for tho past seven years, was accepted with regret, and it was decided to place on record a minute of appreciation of his services. During the week Messrs D. T. Fleming and D. Marshall (members), G. W. Carrington (secretary), and A. B. AVelsh (architect), ot the Otago Education Board, made a visit to Clutha Valley. At Greenfield they met a representative number of settlers concerned in the proposed amalgamated school at Greenfield. Five schools (Greenfield, Clydevale, Puketi. Awaniangu, and Wharetoa) agreed to amalgamate, the proposed school to be erected at the junction of the Green-lield-Clydevale roads. 'Pukepito settlers represented difficulties in connection with transport. They were prepared to join in with the amalgamation scheme for some pupils, while others would be better catered for if they went to Balclutha. Transport was the difficulty, however, and they asked tho board to consider this matter. Tuapoka Mouth settlers put forth their claims to have the amalgamated school erected there, it being considered the most central position. The board members said the • matters brought up would be considered by the board. The ladies of the district entertained the visitors at luncheon, and were thanked by Mr Fleming. Later the board members visited Clydevale. School to look into the matter of overcrowding, and as a result extra accommodation will be provided. Popotunoa and Wairuna Schools were also visited and matters of interest to parents and pupils were discussed.
