"SIT-DOWN" STRIKES
NEW YORK GRAVEDIGGERS A PARTIAL AGREEMENT Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK April 9. The gravediggers’ “ sit-down ” strike has spread to the Catholic Cemetery at New York. Eight burials were scheduled to-day, but only two graves were dug. A child’s coffin was left in an open grave for more than an hour before it was covered by volunteers. Their wage demands were later granted, but the strikers refused to work until a_ settlement was reached at North Arlington.' They agreed to leave the cemetery, but said they would institute pickets to-morrow. DISPUTE SETTLED. NEW YORK, April 11. (Received April 12. at 8 a.m.V The gravediggers’ strike has been settled. When they appeared at the cemetery the superintendent said they would lose their jobs. The diggers returned to work without wage increases.
