DESIGN OF CORONATION STAMPS.—The first supplies of New Zealand’s three Coronation stamps have been received by the General Post Office from England, enlargements of which are reproduced here. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) announces that they will be on sale on Thursday, May 13, as Coronation Day (May 12) will be a general holiday. The red tone of the Id denomination is slightly darker than that of the Id Silver Jubilee, and the colour of the 2)d Coronation stamp is royal blue. The 6d denomination is printed in vermilion. The same design is used for the three denominations, the full-face portraits of their Majesties being surrounded with a border design suggestive of a familiar Maori pattern, while in the lower centre is a reproduction of the New Zealand Coat of Anns. The intaglio line engraving is so well done that the impression appears to stand out in relief. “I am informed,”-added the Minister, "that the extensive nature of the preliminary orders shows that there is world-wide interest in the new issue. The Post Office is not issuing official first-day covers, but many dealers and philatelists have provided their own distinctive envelopes.”
