THE BUREAU AND INDUSTRY INQUIRIES NR HANDER'S TWO QUESTIONS [Per llsited Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 11. A final statement to the .Cress has been uade by Mr A. E, Mander with reference to his protest against the Government's practice of judging the efficiency of business methods and the management of industries in the light of seciet departmental reports not disclosed to the firms upon which they are made.
Mr Mander said he felt he had performed a public duty by drawing attention to tho position. He would ask the Minister to answer two questions—first, did the departmental officers report on the efficiency of business methods and the management of particular businesses and industries; secondly, were such reports disclosed to the Inns reported upon? Would the Minister answer a plain Yes or No? AGAINST BUREAUCRATIC CONTROL. “Like Mr Henry, president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, I have no desire to become involved in the controversy started by Mr Mander’s recent Press statement,” said Mr H. H. Higgins, president of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association. “ Any trend towards bureaucratic control,” added Mr Higgins, “ always has been and always will bo strenuously opposed by the Manufacturers’ Association and the Federation, irrespective oI what Government is in power.”
