NORTH OTAGO KENNEL CLUB A further ribbon parade was staged by the North Otago Kennel Club, and proved very successful. The attendance and entries, although good, were not so numerous as at the previous parade on March 20, when there were a large number of entries from Dunedin. Ur A. Smith Morton Judged all classes, while Mr S. Spiers, as show manager, and Mr C. Hedges, as Judge’s steward, assisted in the ring.' At the conclusion Mr M. F. Woodward _ (president) thanked all those responsible for the success of the parade. The stakes ribbons were presented by Mrs C. Hayhurst. MANCHESTER UNITY There was an excellent attendance at the quarterly meeting of the Loyal Oamaru Lodge, (Manchester Unity). N. 6. Bro. W. J. Kidd was in the chair. There was also a large representation of sisters from the Loyal Star of the North, Lodge" and'brethren from other Manchester Unity, branches. Fraternal greetings were, received from P.G.s Bros. W. M: Park, G. Hilliker (Wellington), and Bro J, C. Stevenson (Tokarani). Two candidates were nominated and elected into membership of the order, while one juvenile member was advanced to the adult lodge. It was resolved to appoint five delegates to the Otago District’s annual meeting, the representation comprising P.G.s Bros. W. Couper, G. E. Richardson, R. F. Storey, T. N. Finder, and G.M. Bro. J. E. Meikle. N.G. Carrad and P.G. Bro. Barnett replied to the visitors’ toast. Congratulations were extended to the members of the Loyal Star of the North Lodge on their success in winning the Otago District Initiation Shield. At the conclusion of the lodge business' P.G.. Bro. Couper entertained the. brethren at a social evening. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Bros. J. D. Christie, R. J, Meldrum, and T. R. Cox. Bros. J. Meikle and C. Taylor were M.C.s. At a suitable interval Bro. Taylor, in conjunction with Sisters Carrad and Bro. Kidd, called on Bro. Couper to accept an electric toaster as a mark of esteem from the members of the combined lodges of the order. . _ . , . .. ,

Bro. Taylor spoke of the splendid record-the worthy permanent secretary held—47 years’ membership, 17 years’ secretaryship, 14 years as trustee, and 26 years’ service as D.D.L.M. _ He also had the honour of introducing; over 100 members into the order. Special reference was made of the excellent assistance Mrs Couper had at all times given her husband in the interests of Oddfellowship generally. Other speakers were Sister Carrad, and Bros. A. E. Sherwin, T. Jenkin, and T. N. Finder, who represented the Loyal Oam aru and North Otago District Past Grand Lodges. Bro. and Mrs Couper were accorded musical honours, after which the guest made a suitable reply. During the evening item severe contributed by Bro. H. Macdonnell (guitar), Bro. Couper, Sisters N. M'Caffrey, M. Christie (songs), Sister A. Smyth (recitations) . Sister M. S. Foss played the accompaniments.

PLUHKET SOCIETY'S STREET APPEAL A generous response 'to the. Oamaru Plunket Society’s annual street appeal resulted in the sum of £7O 6s 2d being realised. This is the highest sum collected for many years, the figures for 1936 being exceeded., by £lO. Valuable assistance was given by Toe H and many others, to whom the society is indebted. The Co-op. corner, under the convenorship of Mr A. Bloch,. proved the best stand with £2O.

NORTH- OTAGO SCOTTISH CLH Visitors -from Dunedin, ' Waimate, Timaru, and Christchurch attended the monthly social of the North Otago Scottish Club. After the singing of ‘Hail Caledonia,’ Chief J. G. Christie and the president of the club (Mrs J. G. Wallace) welcomed the 'various contingents from other societies. A lecture pn. ‘ Bonnie_Prince Charlie’ was given by the and throughout the talk items were given by the following :— Songs, Mrs . Watson, • Miss, ; M. Christie, and ex-Chiefs Gardiner and Wallace; Highland dances, Miss Fair-: lie Miller; recitations. Miss Doris Forbes; trio. Misses E. Ledley, Mortimer, and Christie: pianoforte solos, Miss J. Corlett. The accompaniments were played by Misses Watson and Coriett and Piper ex-Chief Miller. After the address thanks were returned to all who had in any way assisted to make the' evening so successful. Social, intercourse and dancing concluded an enjoyable function.

STAR BASKETBALL CLUB / v The annual meeting of the Star Basketball Club attracted a good attendance of old and new members. The annual report and balance sheet, which disclosed a satisfactory financial position, .were adopted. Election of officers:—Patroneses, Mesdames Orbell and J. The subscription was fixed at the same rate as last year, and it was decided to hold the first practice in tho Drill Hall on April 13. BASKETBALL AT KAKAKU! At a. well-attended meeting in tho Kakanui Sunday School Hall it was unanimously decided to form a basketball club, to be known as the Southern Basketball Club, the colours to he blu« and white. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mrs W. G. Wilson; secretary, Miss R. MacGregor; committee, Mrs W. G. Wilson, Misses R. MacGregor, J. Oats, J. Byres, and N. Wilson. The first practice was held last Saturday, when a good attendance of members enjoyed games throughout the afternoon.

BOWLING ' 'i —Phoenix v. Temuka.— On Saturday eight Phoenix rinks Journeyed to Temuka to play the annual match, the weather, though threatening, holding fine ancj enabling an exceedingly enjoyable afternoon to .be spent in the delightful surroundings.of the beautiful domain in the northern town. The match resulted in a draw,both clubs scoring 183 points each. On arrival at the green the Phoenix players were given a warm welcome by Mr; Clark (president of Temuka Club), : who referred to the cordial relations existing between Oamaru and Temuka,and also by Mr. A. Buzan (Mayor of Temuka), who spoke of the splendid work carried out in Oamaru by tbs Beautifying Society '.and by Dr A. Douglas. In reply, Mr H. P. S. Hamilton (vice-president of Phoenix Club)] made an acknowledgment -of the warmth of the welcome received, and thanked Mr Buzan for the . kindly reference to Dr Douglas’s work in Oamaru.
