NOT TO BE TOLERATED IN ONTARIO PREMIER ISSUES A WARNING Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright TORONTO, April 9. Mr M. Hepburn, the provincial Premier, issued a warning that Ontario would not tolerate the chaos that Mr J. L. Lewis, chairman of the Committee for Industrial Organisation, had caused in the United States. He said: “ This is the first open attempt by Mr Lewis and the C. 1.0. to dominate and dictate to Canadian industry. We believe that the time for a show-down is at the start. There will 'be no illegal ‘ sit-down ’ strikes or picketing, and persons desiring to resume work will be adequately protected. The entire resources of the province will be utilised if the occasion warrants it.” MENACED BY STRIKERS TROUBLE IN PENNSYLVANIA. NEW YORK, April 8. A Hershey (Pennsylvania) plant was operated for two hours, but the workers were menaced by groups of strikers outside, and left when the company warned them that it was impossible to guarantee their protection. “WALK-OUT" OCCURS GENERAL MOTORS, CANADA. MONTREAL, April 8. Reports from Oshawa, Ontario, state that 3,700 employees of General Motors, Canada, called a general strike to-day. The walk-out occurred after a sudden breakdown of negotiations between local unions and company officials. SETTLEMENT IN DETROIT DETROIT, April 9. The Governor (Mr F. Murphy) announced a settlement of the Hudson strike. It was the last important motor strike.
