WEATHER FORECAST
CLOUDY TO OVERCAST The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the south* ern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers* Tapanui, WintOn, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, (Bluff, Halfmoon Bay* Pressure has again risen to the east, while the depression from the Tasman Sea is now moving on to the Dominion. Forecast: Light to moderate and variable winds, with northerUes predominating at first, but southerlies setting in later and freshening. Weather cloudy to overcast, and ram probable. Temperatures becoming cooler. Seas moderate to rather rough. OPPRESSIVE CLOSENESS, No wind was apparent yesterday afternoon. The sky was heavily overcast, temperatures were high, and the atmosphere was so close that the. heats became oppressive. Similar conditions prevailed this morning, though the sky had cleared to some extent. Barometno pressure at noon to-day was rising at 29.85 in, when the temperature readings were 62.2dcg and 58-ldeg maximum and minimum respectively. No rain fell last evening, and though a very light shower occurred about 11 o’clock this morning, the fall was insufficient for registration, but rain appeared probable during the afternoon. Over a twenty- . four-hour period yesterday the temperatures were 69deg and 56dcg.
