RELEASED ON PROBATION

Edwin Albert Dutton Todd, nearly 20 years of age, was brought up for sentence on a charge of unlawfully knowing a girl of under 16 years and of making a false declaration to the registrar for the purpose of obtaining a certificate of marriage. The prisoner had nothing to say in answer to the charges. The Crown Prosecutor said he had nothing to add to the material before the court. His Honour said the prisoner was reported to be just on 20 years of age, and to him scarcely looked that age. The prisoner should have known better and should have acted otherwise. It appeared that there was not the ordinary parental control, otherwise 'it was possible the present crime might have been avoided. . On the first charge Todd was released upon probation for a period of two years upon the usual statutary conditions. On the second charge' he was released and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within two years.
