Pike, had his first success as a trainer at Newcastle races to-day, winning a double with Kagawa in the Maiden Welter Handicap and Timur Khan in the Hamilton Welter Handicap. OTAGO HUNT CLUB OPENIHG MEET OF SEASON The Otago Hunt’ Club will hold its opening meet of the new season tomorrow afternoon at “ Sea View,” Cdrstorphine, over the well-known properties of Messrs J. Day, G. Masters, A. Sim, and R. Sim, who have kindly placed their properties at the club’s disposal. Given fine weather, a large turnout is expected. The throw-off will take place on Mr Day’s property about 3.15 p.m., and iho kill will take place on Mr R. Sims’s property, which is a short distance past the St. Clair golf links. Followers will meet at the Town Hall at 2 p.m.

WHIPPET RACING NOTES AND COMMENTS [By Hub.] The Dunedin Whippet Racing Club has received excellent nominations for its meeting to-morrow. The open race has the Mavora Cup added to the stake. This handsome cup was . presented to the club by Mr,. T.. J. Moynihau. , v G. Little has Phnephoria well again. This dog had bad luck a month ago when he put his shoulder out. Fred. Tanner has two dogs in the open race—Tolan off syds, and Happy Win off 9yds. Those two dogs will have their work cut out to be in the money. Mrs Guthrie has Gold Flight in the pink of condition, and this is the dog that will have to be headed. The Turner brothers have their team well forward for this meeting. Blue Vision is their only hope from 7yds. Jack Manley has Granvin going well at present. He is only a light-weight in open company. Off the front this dog will set a merry pace. Jack Berry’s team is in good nick at present. Red Glow should collect again in the second class. ' Two nominations have been received from Invercargill—Madame Min and Bramy’s Pride. Both these dogs have been paid up for three races each. Mrs Hensleigh’s Heloise is another li.ght-weight in open company. This little bitch is doing good track work. The Omakau owner,-Mr T. Carruth, has his good little bitch Hazelwood in the open, race to-morrow, and off the front she will be in the picture. Don Hutcherson has Nightly going well. This dog will make the second class field do their best. R. Stammer’s team are not short of track work, and are well forward for this meeting Jim Algie’s Night Flight is in the open hurdles to-morrow, and on track work he must have a show. Eighteen Carat is another nomination from Invercargill. This dog will have two starts—the second class and open hurdles. P. M'Kinlay’s puppy, Madge; Wildfire. could do with more track work. Miss L. O’Brien has a good pup in Belle Junior. The dogs that should run well at the meeting are: Gold Flight, Blue Vision, and Madame Min in the Mavora Cup; Red Glow, Nightly, and Hazelwood in the second class handicap; Camperdown, Cashier, and Night Flight in the open hurdles; and Madge, Wildfire, and Belle Junior in the nursery handicap.
