OBITUARY —Nurse J. M. Beaton. — Oarnaru loses a devoted and beloved nurse in Jessie Morrison Beaton. Nurse Beaton was born at Tapanui, and began her life’s work at an early age in Nurse Stronach’s hospital at the corner of High street, Dunedin, and later joined the staff at Prospect House, under Miss Toomb, where she served for nine years, during which time she made many lifelong friends. She then came to Oarnaru and took up duty at Nurse Stronach’s private hospital, Nen street, where her keen attention to duty and kindly understanding endeared her to all whom she met. In 1821 Nurse Beaton engaged in a further branch of nursing, and with her sister (Mrs Thomson) took over the Rangimarie Nursing Home.
