COMPETING WITH AMATEURS ALLEGED PROFESSIONAL [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 9. Todd) at a meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. Mr Todd said the athlete in question was in Christchurch at Easter, reputedly to compete for Victoria CoHpge in the interuniversity college tournament. He did not start, although he was entered for the 220yds hurdles. “ This man has competed ’ against amateurs who knew he was a former professional. One or two of these athletes will be in line for places in the team to compete at the Empire Games in Sydney. They din’t like to give him away, but there will be others willing to give them away when it is touch and go for selection.” It was decided to advise the Wellington Centre that the man referred _to competed as a professional in Christchurch some years ago, and so far as members of the centre knew, he had not been reinstated.
