SOUTH CANTERBURY AGAINST AMALGAMATION [Pek United Pkess Association.} TIMARU, April 8. At a conference to consider the Minister’s proposals for the amalgamation of local bodies, by 22 votes to 7, the delegates rejected l the principle of creating one county for the whole of South Canterbury, and also overwhelmingly opposed a proposition to maintain the status quo, or to take a referendum of ratepayers to determine whether there should be one or two counties.
