Luncheon Party. On Thursday the Misses Reynolds were hostesses at a luncheon party in the club, given in honour of Miss Macdonald. A beautiful central bowl ot tawny coloured gladioli was used to decorate the table, and Lady Sargood presented the guest of honour with a bouquet of bluebells, which toned with the charming blue ensemble that she was wearing. The other guests were Lady Sargood, Mrs F. S. Batchelor, Mrs C. North, Mrs G. R. Ritchie. Mrs E C. Reynolds, and the Misses M'Lean, b’ p’arquhar, and M. Downie Stewart. Macandrew Bay Women’s Institute. The annual meeting of the Macandrew Bay branch of the Women s Institute was held on Thursday evening, March 4, a large number of members and intending members being present. The annual report and balance sheet were tread and adopted, after which Mrs Brookman thanked her committee and the members of the institute for their whole-hearted support during her term of office. The election of officers for the incoming year was then proceeded with, the result being President. Mrs Brookman; vice-presidents— Mesdames Gibson and Hinkley; secretary, Mrs Stapleton; minute secretary, Mrs Shurrock; treasurer, Mrs M'Dougall; committee—Mesdames Landreth, Ryan, Vickers, Webber, Whitburn, and Challis. The general business was dealt with, after which the prises were presented to the winners of the competition as follows:—Mrs Butler I, and Mrs Stapleton 2. A small giftof appreciation was presented to Mrs Gibson by one of the members. The retiring committee, acting as hostesses, served supper, and the singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close. Society of Women Musicians. A large number of members attended the annual meeting of the Society of Women Musicians, . held on Monday evening in the Otago Women’s Club. Miss Irene Barth; the retiring president, took the chair for the first part of the evening. Miss Beatrice Barth made feeling reference to the death of Miss' Effie- Yofstori, who had been a member of the society since, its inception, was for three years its president, and who had endeared herself to every member through her gracious personality.' The members stood in' silence lit respect to her memory. The president, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, referred to the large number of members who had taken, active part in providing' programmes, and to the Satisfactory financial position of the society. The following officebearers were elected:—President, Miss Mary Martin; vice-presidents—Mrs Raynor Bell, Miss Ruth Moore, and Mrs H. C. Campbell; committee—Mrs J. Leech and Misses I. Barth, A. Sinclair, M. Frazer, A. White, L. Rattigan r N, Hobson, and Marjorie ■, Allan.. Mrs Raynor Bell spoke with regret of the voluntary retirement of Miss Emilie Logie, who had served the society so well throughout its existence as president for two years and as committee member for 10 years. Miss Martin then took the chair, and paid a tribute to the successful leadership of her predecessor, who was presented with a bouquet from the society. After several suggestions had been made for the preparation of good programmes for the coming season, the beautiful Cesar Franck quintet was played in response to many requests by Misses E. Wallace, N. Garland, L. Rattigan, E. Wycherley, and Mrs H. C. Campbell. The evening concluded with the extension of good wishes to Miss Mama Service, who is shortly leaving for England. Balclutha Women’s Institute. There was an excellent attendance at the annual meeting of the Balclutha Women’s Institute held in St. Mark’s Hall f on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs J. D. Landels was in the chair andl read a letter from the late president (Mrs D. Mulvey, Invercargill) wishing the institute all success. The proceedings opened in the usual way with the singing of the ode and reciting the creed. The motto was: “ Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.” Mrs J. R. Copland was appointed president and will have associated with her the following committee Mesdames J. D. Landels, C. Wyber, W. Stewart, J. T. Sutherland, D. Lattiraore, S. Walker, A. I. Miller, A. Hall, W. Anderson,' J. Montgomerie, and Miss Laing. The annual report and balance sheet were read by the secretary, and these disclosed that the membership had been well maintained and that the institute had had) a very successful and profitable year. These were adopted, and the committee congratulated on the success attending their efforts. Points prizes for the year were presented as follow:—Mrs J. Smith 1, Mrs J. Montgomerie 2, Mrs J. T. Sutherland 3. During the social interval afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, and much-appreciated items were given by Mrs S. Messer and Miss Lillian Scott. An interesting demonstration on a tailored patch and buttonhole was given by Miss Myra Battrick. Votes of thanks were accorded to last year’s officers and others who had l in any way assisted the institute, also to the artists, demonstrator, and hostesses for the afternoon, and an interesting meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
