AUCKLAND DISTRICT CONFERENCE [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 10. “ Thore is no need for me to traverse the progress of your order or to testify ‘ to the excellent work it is doing. Facts and figures speak for themselves. I should like, however, _to express the thought that the services returned to the people by friendly societies of the calibre of Manchester Unity are inseparably a port of and vital to tho maintenance and best interests of our social life,” said the mayor, Mr Davis,in welcoming the representatives of 70 lodges to the annual conference of the Auckland District Manchester Unity , this morning. Bro. G. 'W. Fade (District Grand Master) presided. The New Zealand branch was represented by Messrs W.M'Millan, D.G.M., F. A. Smith,P.D.G.M., and J. E. Allen, P.D.G.M. The balance sheet showed that the accumulated funds of the district amounted to £167,433. Mentioning the Government’s proposed national health insurance scheme, the Grand Master said friendly societies had been given to understand that they would have a share in administering the scheme.
