SAND BUILDING COMPETITION
HOVEL AFTERNOON AT ST. GLAIR LIFE-SAVING DEMONSTRATIONS Belated though it was, a real touch of summer attracted thousands of people to the St. Clair Bmcli on Saturday afternoon, a children’s carnival and sand building competition held under the auspices of the Hundred Thousand Club evoking wide interest. Hundreds of youngsters entered, and the task of marshalling them into position was not an easy one. However, they were settled down at last in long lines according to age, and entered into the competition with much_ enthusiasm and with the hope of winning some of tho prize money kindly donated by Mr Arthur Barnett. The judges, whose task engaged them for several hours, made awards as follows:

Nine years: Ronald Reid, Pine Hill road, 1; Larry Scott, 11 Bedford street, 2; Bettie Stewart, Queen street, Mosgiel, 3. Ten years: Ken. Fleming, 31 Prince Albert road, 1; Jim. Rackley, 4 Begg street, 2; Alice Wild, 520 Cast!® street, 3. Eleven years: Hazel Winefield, 169 Surrey street, 1; Keith M‘Lennan, 65 Princes street, 2; Jim Cook, 503 Main South road, 3. Sis Consolation Prizes (Theatre Tickets). —John Kydd, 96 Melbourne street; Gwen Mantel, 491 Macandrew road; Ngaire Pinkham; Beverley Paine, Corrunna street; Pat Beauchamp, 394 King street; Marjorie Malcolm, 25 Coughtrey street. , During the afternoon exhibitions of life saving were given by the St. Clair Life Saving Club, and were much enjoyed by the large crowd.
